MLS rolls out a one-match slate Wednesday as the Seattle Sounders (7-8-9) host Real Salt Lake (8-5-12) at Lumen Field with both teams looking to move up the Western Conference standings. The clubs are tied with 29 points and a -5 goal differential this season, but Real Salt Lake holds the next tiebreaker and sits 12th in the Western Conference, while Seattle is right behind in 13th.
The Sounders are having a somewhat disappointing season after making the playoffs as the Western Conference’s fifth seed in 2025, but there’s still time to turn things around and make a push this year. Seattle hasn’t won an MLS match since its 3-2 victory over San Jose on May 13, but each of its previous five matches has ended in a draw as it looks to finally break through and get back into the win column.
Real Salt Lake also made the playoffs last year but lost 3-1 to Portland in the Wild Card Round and would be on the outside looking in if this year’s playoffs started today. Salt Lake hasn’t had much luck as of late, losing each of its previous three matches with its most recent MLS win coming against Colorado on May 16.
